About Main Street Small Animal Hospital
Our History
Main Street Small Animal Hospital opened in 1988, when Dan Blake moved to the area to practice viticulture and veterinary medicine. He purchased an old house at the end of main street and began converting it into a veterinary hospital.
Back then, Templeton had about 500 residents and there wasn't much happening on Main Street beyond Hewitt's Hardware and the Feed and Grain store. As the area grew, our hospital developed a countywide reputation for providing compassionate care and practical advice at affordable prices.
Our Core Values
We all know what it feels like to get great health care. That feeling of "I can't believe it took me this long to find this place!" Our clients leave our hospital feeling this way and knowing their pets are getting top care from a compassionate team.
If you ask our clients why they come to Main Street, they will tell you it's because of our people! Our team truly loves working here and offering your pet the best in veterinary care. This enthusiasm comes through in our work. Our doctors are experienced and talented, yet practical and kind. Our support staff has years of experience and offer a level of customer service unmatched at other veterinary hospitals.
We practice veterinary medicine based on our three core values of Professionalism, Integrity, and Respect. By keeping these values in alignment, we build a strong relationship with you and deliver great health care for your dog or cat.

The Main Street Small Animal Hospital Team is now RECOVER Rescuer Certified!
At Main Street Small Animal Hospital, we take patient care very seriously and are always looking for ways to improve our skills and continue our education. Our team recently participated in the RECOVER Initiative.
RECOVER is evidence based canine and feline CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) guidelines. RECOVER certification is broken up into Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). BLS focuses on recognizing Cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA), responding to CPA, providing high quality chest compression, mouth to snout and intubated ventilation, and the CPR 2-minute cycle. ALS focuses on continuing the RECOVER CPR algorithm including monitoring equipment (ECG & ETCO2), diagnosing ECG arrest rhythm and shockable rhythms, defibrillation, and drug therapies. RECOVER certification includes an online course going over the evidence-based guidelines and an in-person simulation training. The simulation training includes use of simulation software and CPR mannequin teams of 4-6 work together on 2-3 simulation cases. The in-person training includes training on feedback and closed-loop communication training and ends with a mega-code simulation test case. Upon completion of this training, we are very proud to announce that most of our team is now ALS or BLS certified!
